After the winter rains,
between
August and September, 1200 species of flowers,
80 of which are endemic to this area, explode onto
the
West Coast scene,
drawing visitors the world over to this breathtaking
spectacle of nature. Although plenty of flowers can
be seen along the road, there are also reserves where
you can get out of your car and have a close up look
at them.
Even though the flowers bloom in all the featured towns
of this brochure, the place to be in the third weekend
of September is
Darling,
where the Darling Wildflower Society has held a show
virtually every year since 1917. This tiny area contains
one-tenth of the species of the entire Cape Floral
Biosphere!
Enjoy fascinating floral displays while browsing through
flea market stalls and indulging in gorgeous food.
Don’t however linger too
long in one place because every town along the coast
will be eager to share their floral fare with you!
